pool service water feature maintenance
Commercial Water Feature Maintenance

Commercal water feature maintenance is truly our specialty and the majority of the work we do. These features are their own unique field, not quite maintained like a pool or spa but also quite differently than koi pond or residential fountain. Most of the time they are not plastered but have exposed concrete or are roughly coated. This allows a wider range of chemicals to be used. They are usually shallow, between 1-3 feet, and shallow water is more affected by temperature, which and can affect the chemical balance. This difference can be seen vividly when using the Langlier Index. Many times these features do not have filters and even if they do, their unusual shapes make it tricky to keep all of the water in circulation. California Aqua Scapes has been maintaining ponds, streams, and waterfalls such as these for many years and know the ins & outs of their maintenance. This is why as a community or property manager, you will be glad you hired CAS.

Why a pool certification for ponds and streams?

While ponds, streams and other water features are not maintained like pools and have much different "personalities" and other dynamic differences, the concepts taught in the CPO certification class apply to ANY hole in the ground filled with water. Here are some of the reasons I believe this certification is not only helpful, but necessary, to maintain the health of the investment and those enjoying it.

1. Extensively covers safety. Physical safety (such as entrapment and those who cannot swim), chemical safety and facility safety.

2. Teaches about all common pool chemicals and their warnings, how to use them correctly to sanitize and disinfect water while still keeping water clear and balanced. For example, two of the most common pool chemicals, liquid chlorine and muriatic acid, if mixed together can cause an explosion.

3. In depth information about the mathematics and dynamics of water circulation (which can be very tough in odd-shaped ponds), filtration techniques and methods.

4. Includes many laws and regulations that can help keep a facility safe both for its users and its owners.
